Rockies' Outman injured vomiting
According to manager Jim Tracy, Outman sustained the injury from vomiting due to a bout of food poisoning.
He will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list, MLB.com reported.
"The food poisoning, there was a lot of vomiting and I really believe he strained his oblique," Tracy said Tuesday.
"He's been much better over the last couple of days but he hasn't been able to throw. We haven't been able to get him to the mound. So we're just going to err on the side of caution."
The left-hander, who joined the Rockies from the Athletics in an offseason trade, had a 3-5 record and 3.70 ERA last season, with 35 strikeouts.
