Rolen activated from disabled list
Infielder-outfielder Kristoper Negron was optioned to Triple-A Louisville to make room for Rolen, who had been out since May 12 because of a sore left shoulder. Rolen batted seventh in the lineup on Monday night. In the second inning, Rolen drove in a run with a line single to right-center against starter Derek Lowe.
Rolen had been hampered by the shoulder for a while before going on the disabled list. In 29 games, he hit only .174 with two homers and 11 RBI.
The 37-year-old Rolen is a .281 hitter with 310 homers and 1,259 RBI in a career that started with Philadelphia in 1997. Rolen also played for St. Louis and Toronto before being acquired by the Reds from the Blue Jays at the 2009 trade deadline.
