Brewers' Thornburg leaves game against Nationals
The rookie right-hander had a 3-2 count on Roger Bernadina when manager Ron Roenicke and a team trainer went to the mound. After conferring for about a minute, Thornburg walked off the mound into the dugout and was replaced by Kameron Loe.
''He said he's not sore at all, but I didn't like that his velocity was down,'' Roenicke said.
Loe promptly struck out Bernadina.
Thornburg, who was a starter in the minor leagues, pitched one inning, giving up one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two.
''The doctors think he's fine,'' Roenicke said. ''He's just not used to the bullpen.''
The Brewers were trailing 8-0 at the time.
Thornburg has no record and a 5.79 ERA in five games.
''It's just a tired arm,'' he said. ''It feels like it does the day after a start.''
