A Big Hurt for White Sox

Thomas will be fitted with a special brace and he must rest the ankle for two- to-three weeks. If the pain does not subside, season-ending surgery becomes the most likely option for Thomas. The bad news comes just a day after star outfielder Magglio Ordonez returned from a 36-game absence. "I don't know what's going to happen," said White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. "I don't want anyone to have surgery." Thomas initially injured the ankle running the bases during a loss in Florida on June 17. He re-aggravated the problem against Minnesota last week, and was unable to play against the Cubs in an interleague set over the weekend. The Big Hurt last played on Tuesday and was 0-for-3 with a walk. He is hitting .271 with 18 homers and 49 RBI this season. To fill out the roster, the White Sox are expected to recall outfielder Joe Borchard from Triple-A Charlotte, where he was batting .267 with 16 homers and 48 RBI.
