3-0 - 1/21
As expected Miggy and Prince tore the cover off the ball, but when Austin Jackson, Alex Avila and Jhonny Peralta are hitting like this, there aren’t many better lineups in baseball.

3-0 4 1/15
Six runs separated the Rays and Yankees during an opening weekend series. The East will be a dogfight, but the first round appears to go to the Rays.

3-1 - 1/5
The Rangers can get out of the gates early as they have seven games against the Mariners and Twins this week, which were a combined 64-games below .500 in 2011.

3-0 3 4/22
Wins against divisional opponents are important, and after an opening weekend sweep of the Giants, Arizona has now defeated San Francisco eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

2-2 3 2/25
Fifteen players had more home runs during the opening weekend than the entire Angels lineup. Don’t expect this to be a trend though as the Halos bats should do plenty of damage this season.

4-1 2 2/19
Lance Lynn stepped in nicely for the injured Chris Carpenter while Carlos Beltran seems to have adjusted well to wearing the birds on a bat across his jersey.

2-2 4 7/25
After taking two of three from Cleveland, the Jays are north of the border for a nine-game homestand. Not a bad way to start the season.

1-3 4 1/11
Mariano Rivera blew the save on Opening Day and the Yankees were swept by the Rays. Not the best way to start the season, but both the Sandman and the Yanks will be just fine.

9

3-1 10 1/19
Matt Kemp picked up right where he left off in 2011, on fire for the Dodgers. A masterful start by Chad Billingsley is nothing to scoff at either.

1-3 5 5/27
Losing two of three to cross-state rival Pittsburgh hurts, but the Phillies return home for seven games, where they were 52-29 last season, tied for the second-best mark in the majors.

11

2-2 4 1/22
Jay Bruce proved clutch during opening weekend. His power from the middle of the lineup is a good sign for a team that will face the division rival Cardinals in six of their next 10 games.

12

2-2 - 12/25
Zach Greinke can’t be touched in Miller Park. Including the 6-0 victory over the Cardinals in his first home start of the season, Greinke is 12-0 lifetime in home games for Milwaukee.

Pitching was the story for the Royals as they spoiled Albert Pujols’ opening weekend in Anaheim. If the starting rotation can keep this up, the Royals could surprise a lot of people in 2012.

14

1-3 5 4/16
Buster Posey’s return was about the only positive for the Giants as they were swept in the opening series by Arizona.

15

2-2 3 1/18
Choosing to shift lefty Ross Detwiler to the starting rotation not only prompted a trade request from mainstay John Lannan, but also weakens a bullpen that is already without closer Drew Storen.

16

1-3 6 10/26
Pitching was an issue for the Red Sox against the Tigers. It’s too early to hit the panic button, but seven in a row against the Blue Jays and Rays could put the BoSox in a bad spot to start the season.

17

2-3 4 6/26
Heath Bell blew his first save opportunity with Miami. Pair that with Josh Johnson’s 2012 debut and it has been a rough start for Ozzie Guillen and the new-look Marlins.

0-4 4 3/18
The Braves start off the season getting swept in a three-game series with the Mets. Last season, Atlanta didn’t suffer their first sweep until September.

4-0 8 5/27
A healthy David Wright and strong starting pitching propelled the Mets to a sweep of the Braves. How many New Yorkers had the Mets 3-0 and the Yankees 0-3 to start the season?

1-3 - 6/29
By taking advantage of an off day this week, Ubaldo Jimenez won’t have to miss his turn in the rotation by dropping his suspension appeal immediately after Saturday’s dominant performance.

2-1 2 5/27
Winning two of three in comeback fashion against the Phillies is impressive. Doing it against three starters who were a combined 47-17 last season makes it that much sweeter.

On the bright side, the M’s get to play the A’s again this weekend. Unfortunately they are in Arlington for a four-game set beforehand.

1-3 7 16/29
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Rockies starting pitcher Jamie Moyer became the oldest player (49) to appear in a game since 54-year-old Minnie Minoso did it for the White Sox in 1980. Unfortunately, Moyer lost to the 'Stros.

Strong pitching was on display in the O’s opening weekend sweep of the Twins, but a week against the Yankees and Blue Jays might be a completely different story.

The ChiSox and Robin Ventura didn’t go down without a fight against the defending AL champs … and the South Side’s new skipper finally made amends with former foe Nolan Ryan.

Yoenis Cespedes was very impressive in his first MLB action. Unfortunately, the rest of the A’s were not.

The Astros won an opening series for the first time since 2006 and are over .500 at any point in any season for the first time since July 29, 2009.

The Twins’ performance against the Orioles was truly offensive … or inoffensive depending on how you look at it. It will be a long season in the Twin Cities if the offensive woes continue.
