News: Alonso (forearm) will not play again in the 2014 season, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Impact: Alonso has a damaged forearm tendon and corrective surgery has yet to be ruled out. He'll get a second opinion in the near future, but it seems clear that he won't take the field for the Padres again this season. The announcement means more playing time for the likes of Tommy Medica and Jake Goebbert, while Yasmani Grandal may see some extra time at first base as well.(RotoWire, )

News: Alonso will receive a second MRI on his strained right forearm Wednesday, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports. "It's not looking good in the short term," manager Bud Black stated. Impact: Alonso's injury appears to have more of an effect on his tendon/muscle than the bone, so the team will conduct a second set of tests.
