News: Martinez won't catch during the Tigers' three-game set that begins Monday in Arizona, James Schmehl of reports. Impact: A back injury kept Martinez on the pine 11 times during a 13-game stretch earlier this month, but because it's in the recent past, he won't be eligible to get in the crouch in a National League stadium. He's manning first base Monday, while Miguel Cabrera slides over to third, a configuration that could very well hold through Wednesday.(RotoWire, )

News: Martinez is starting at first base in Sunday's series finale vs. the Indians and is expected to see more time at the position during the upcoming three-game series in Arizona,'s Chris Iott reports. Impact: Sunday's start will mark the 15th game Martinez has played at first base this season. While the Tigers travel to Arizona for interleague play, manager Brad Ausmus is tentatively planning to keep Martinez's bat in the lineup by giving him additional starts at first base, with Miguel Cabrera moving over to third.(RotoWire, )

News: Martinez (back) will return to the Tigers' lineup Friday, batting fourth. Impact: This is excellent news for Martinez's owners, as he has missed 11 of the past 13 games with the injury. The extended time off has definitely improved his condition, and he should be back to being an everyday DH in Detroit. Since July 1, 2013, Martinez leads all of baseball with a .348 batting average and is third in the American League with a .559 slugging percentage, making him a true fantasy stud.(RotoWire, )

News: Martinez is unlikely to play both games of doubleheaders in the near future, and could be given the occasional rest day, the Oakland Press's Matthew B. Mowery reports. Impact: Martinez reported being fully healthy before Friday's game, which he started, after missing 11 of the last 13 with a back injury. However, the Tigers will be exercising caution with the star clean-up hitter. Detroit has a doubleheader Saturday against the Indians, so don't count on getting two full games out of Martinez.(RotoWire, )

News: Martinez (back) is in line to return to the lineup Friday versus the Indians, reports. Impact: Martinez, who first came down with his back injury on July 4, was able to fit in upper-body exercises Friday. If he checks out OK on Saturday, he'll take swings off a tee or via soft toss Sunday, before heading to Minnesota for the All-Star break. He won't participate in the game, but after two weeks on the pine, he appears poised to play again Friday.(RotoWire, )

Fri. July 11, 2014
News: Martinez (back) is out of the lineup Friday,'s Jason Beck reports. Impact: Martinez is expected to sit through the All-Star break, so his absence from the lineup isn't a big surprise. The veteran first baseman/designated hitter has exploded offensively this season, hitting .328 with 21 home runs and 55 RBI over 80 games.(RotoWire, )

News: Martinez was out of the starting lineup for the fourth straight game Thursday, throwing into question his availability for next week's All-Star game. Impact: Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said before Thursday's game in Kansas City that no decision has been made on whether to sit Martinez for the entire four-game series. If that were to happen, the slugger would almost certainly be ruled out of participating at Target Field in Minneapolis. Martinez has missed seven of the past 10 games with a strained lower right side. Torii Hunter replaced him at DH with Don Kelly in right field for the Tigers' opener against the Royals.(STATS, 6:26pm)

News: Manager Brad Ausmus said Martinez (back) would likely sit out for the entirety of the Tigers' four-game series with the Royals, Lynn Henning of the Detroit News reports. Impact: In combining the four more days of rest with the additional four he'll receive during the All-Star break, Martinez should have plenty of time to heal up from the back soreness that started dogging him last week. With 21 homers, 55 RBI and a .328 batting average over 80 games, Martinez's production has far surpassed even the most optimistic of projections, so some extra time off should be more than acceptable to those who roster him.(RotoWire, )

News: Martinez (back) is not in the lineup Wednesday for the fourth straight day. Impact: Martinez continues to battle soreness in his back; and though he is considered day-to-day, it remains to be seen when he will be able to play next. Expect Torii Hunter and J.D. Martinez to continue sharing the DH duties until Martinez returns.(RotoWire, )
