News: Miller will have his spot in the rotation skipped, as suspected, and will remain in the bullpen for the time being, reports. Impact: Miller had struggled in his starts leading up to the break. If he can figure it out while pitching out of the bullpen he will likely slot back into the rotation again this season. If not, the Cardinals could trade for another starter or give some of their younger guys in the organization a shot while they wait for Michael Wacha to return from a shoulder injury.(RotoWire, )

News: Miller (back) will be available out of the bullpen Friday against the Dodgers and manager Mike Matheny said a four-man rotation is in play for the next turn, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Impact: It sounds like Miller will remain in the bullpen for the foreseeable future, after a first half in which he posted a 4.29 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 73:54 K:BB. The right-hander failed to turn in a quality start in any of his final five outings heading into the break, so when the Cards need a fifth starter, they may instead turn to Tyler Lyons if Michael Wacha (shoulder) isn't ready.(RotoWire, )

News: Miller was visited by a trainer during the fifth inning of Thursday's start against the Pirates, and he was taken out of the game after the end of the frame. Impact: Miller was decent until the fifth inning, when he gave up three runs on two hits and three walks. All in all, he threw 92 pitches over five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks, with a lone strikeout. The trainer's visit to the mound presumably had something to do with Miller's nagging back spasms, which have been an issue for the last few weeks. It's unclear how much of his struggles are due to the injury, but Miller has been terrible since late May, with the exception of back-to-back starts June 7 and 14. He also owns an ugly 73:54 K:BB and 4.75 FIP over 109 innings, indicating that he's pitched even worse than his 4.29 ERA suggests. The Cardinals will likely provide an update after the end of Thursday's game.(RotoWire, )
