News: Doolittle struck out one in a perfect tenth inning to pick up the save Saturday against the Mariners. Impact: Doolittle had been reinstated from the disabled list one day earlier. It was his first game since Aug. 23, and he picked up right where he left off. Since the first of July, Doolittle has allowed only one run and hasn't blown a save in 10 chances. He now has 21 saves this year.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) has been reinstated from the disabled list. Impact: As expected, Doolittle will return to the active roster after a successful throwing session Thursday morning. The lefty will almost certainly step back into his role as the primary closer.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) is expected to come off the DL on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Impact: Evidently, Doolittle felt no ill effects Thursday morning after throwing 20 pitches to hitters standing in the box Wednesday, as manager Bob Melvin said he "fully expects" to have the lefty back for Friday's series opener against Seattle. Doolittle, who owns an otherworldly 80:5 K:BB this season, should immediately return the closer role.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) is likely to be activated from the DL on Friday if he comes out of Thursday's session feeling good, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports. Impact: He threw 20 pitches to hitters standing in the box Wednesday and said it went great, so all signs point to the A's having their closer back this weekend. He was one of the more dominant relievers in baseball prior to the oblique injury, and should be highly valued moving forward.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) threw 20 pitches to hitters standing in the box Wednesday and said it went great, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Impact: Doolittle returned to a mound Monday and appears to be inching closer to a return, though the team may want to see him throw an actual live batting practice session before activating him. If so, Doolittle may not return until this weekend's series against Seattle, but he should have little trouble reclaiming the closer role once healthy.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) threw off a mound Monday and felt good, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Impact: Doolittle will face live hitters Wednesday and could come off the DL late in the week. The A's have only had two save opportunities since he hit the DL, but getting him back will be big for their bullpen and nice for owners down the stretch, if the A's can create save opportunities for him again.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) will throw a bullpen session in Chicago on Monday, Jane Lee of reports. Impact: The lefty threw 20 pitches off flat ground Saturday and thus received the green light to return to mound work. There was some hope Doolittle would be activated Monday when first eligible, but it now sounds like he won't be reinstated until a bit later in the week.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session from flat ground without any issues Saturday and will be with the team for next week's road trip,'s Jane Lee reports. Impact: Doolittle is expected to throw one or two regular bullpen sessions before being activated from the DL, which will likely happen on the road trip that starts in Chicago before heading to Seattle for a weekend series. It would probably be a stretch for him to be activated in Chicago, but Seattle would seem like a legitimate possibility.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle threw a long-toss session for the second straight day Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Impact: Doolittle increased his distance from 90 to 105 feet Wednesday, indicating he felt even better than a day earlier. Manager Bob Melvin said Doolittle will be reevaluated Friday before the next move is determined, but the lefty could return to the Oakland bullpen by some point early next week.(RotoWire, )

News: Doolittle (oblique) played catch from 90 feet out Tuesday, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports. Impact: The A's shut Doolittle down for more than a week after he suffered an oblique injury late last month, but the lefty's ability to start back up with his throwing program puts a return next Monday when first eligible well within the realm of possibility. Eric O'Flaherty successfully converted his lone save opportunity and has posted strong numbers this season, but there's little-to-no doubt Doolittle will reassume closing duties immediately upon activation.(RotoWire, )
