News: Wheeler was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Impact: Wheeler once held some promise as a prospect while coming up through the Diamondbacks' system, but it appears his promising numbers in the minors were merely a creation of the Pacific Coast League. He's never experienced much success during his time in the big leagues, producing a .233/.280/.335 line in 225 career plate appearances.(RotoWire, )

News: Wheeler was designated for assignment by the Angels on Monday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Orange County Register reports. Impact: Wheeler was designated for assignment to make room for Jairo Diaz on the active roster. The 25-year-old third baseman hit just .232/.281/.375 with the Rockies in 31 games this season, before being designated for assignment and subsequently claimed by the Angels. He hit .326/.373/.402 over 25 games with Triple-A Salt Lake, but it wasn't enough to keep him on the Angels' 40-man roster.(RotoWire, )
