News: Howard struck out four times Thursday, extending his major league record of four-strikeout games to 25, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. Impact: That's a lot of golden sombreros for Howard. He has a major league-leading 188 strikeouts this season and has hit just .172 with 30 strikeouts in September. The Phillies have said they would like to trade Howard this offseason, but it is hard to imagine any teams showing much interest in the former MVP.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard (.223/.311/.378) hit his 22nd homer of the year against Jon Lester and the Athletics on Friday night, as he went 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Impact: The Howard home run (410 feet) was the only run that the Athletics gave up on the night, and while Howard is no longer in his prime he does offer power at the expense of batting average. Although the season is almost over, Howard has a shot of reaching 100 RBI on the year.(RotoWire, )

News: Howard is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports. Impact: Howard will give way to Darin Ruf at first base with a lefty (Eric Stults) on the hill for San Diego. The Padres are trotting out another lefty in Robbie Erlin on Thursday, so Howard could end up getting a two-day break, but he should play close to everyday over the remainder of this season and next season as well.(RotoWire, )
