News: Montero might be available out of the bullpen Wednesday, Newsday's Marc Carig reports. Impact: The Mets' rotation is in flux, with Jacob deGrom returning to the rotation this weekend, so Montero won't necessarily need to stay on a starter's schedule. He'll still likely make a few more starts for the Mets this season, but his next start is TBD.(RotoWire, )

News: Montero had the best outing of his young career, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks against the Cubs on Sunday. He struck out six in 7.1 innings. Impact: Chicago is a free-swinging team, so part of the outing has to be discounted, but Montero showed improved command and control, mixing pitches and speeds effectively. He may get one more start, but that depends on if Jacob deGrom is activated Saturday, since the Mets have an off day this week and could slot deGrom in for Montero.(RotoWire, )

News: Montero allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in five-plus innings in the Mets' 7-1 loss to the Nationals on Tuesday. Impact: Montero, starting in place of the injured Jacob deGrom (shoulder), was victimized by the long ball. He allowed a two-run, opposite field home run to Bryce Harper in the second but was poised for a solid start until the sixth. Anthony Rendon went yard to start the sixth, and after walking Adam LaRoche, Ian Desmond ended Montero's night with a two-run home run. With deGrom likely to miss one or two more starts, Montero should remain in the rotation, but needs to have better command and control to limit the hitters' counts he created during Tuesday's start.(RotoWire, )

News: The New York Mets have put right-hander Jacob deGrom on the 15-day disabled list because of rotator cuff tendinitis and called up Montero to start Tuesday. Impact: The 23-year-old Montero made his big league debut earlier this year. He went 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts for the Mets. He was recently picked as the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the week after two scoreless starts at Triple-A Las Vegas.(STATS, 6:54pm)

News: Montero will be promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas to start in place of the injured Jacob deGrom (shoulder) on Tuesday against the Nationals, ESPN New York reports. Impact: Montero's turn in the 51s' rotation comes up Tuesday, which is a factor in his promotion, coupled with the view that the Mets feel Noah Syndergaard is not yet ready and would benefit from a few more outings in the minors. If deGrom only misses the one start, Montero could be sent back down, but there is a possibility deGrom lands on the 15-day disabled list meaning Montero would make at least two or three starts in his stead.(RotoWire, )
