News: Maholm was exceptional Saturday night, hurling six-plus innings of scoreless baseball against the Padres. He allowed just two hits, didn't walk a batter, and struck out four, but he came away with a no decision. Impact: Forced into action in place of the injured Josh Beckett (hip), Maholm wasn't stretched out, so the extended outing was more than the Dodgers could have hoped for. Maholm threw 65 pitches (45 for strikes) and allowed just two singles before departing from a scoreless contest.(RotoWire, )

News: Maholm, who has been confirmed as Saturday's starter in place of Josh Beckett, hasn't piched more than 2.1 innings in an appearance since May 14, Ken Gurnick of reports. Impact: While a home start would ordinarily be a very useful matchup to consider streaming Maholm if he was stretched out, that he may be limited to three or four innings almost certainly erases any glimmer of upside that Saturday's start would otherwise present. The Dodgers will likely have to lean heavily on their bullpen in support of the left-hander.(RotoWire, )

News: Maholm will likely start in place of Josh Beckett (hip) on Saturday against the Padres, unless the lefty is needed as a relief pitcher either Thursday or Friday, in which case Red Patterson would likely get the nod, True Blue LA reports. Impact: Maholm has been awful in his seven starts this season, allowing his opponents to post a .322/.395/.533 slash line. However, he's fared somewhat better out of the bullpen, and pretty much any pitcher is a viable streaming option against the Padres.(RotoWire, )
