News: Feliz picked up his first save of the season Friday night versus the A's, giving up one hit and one walk during a scoreless ninth inning. Impact: After recording a combined 72 saves between 2010 and 2011, the road back to the Rangers' closer role has been a long one for Feliz. Though the 26-year-old righty is certainly not locked into the role yet, he figures to see plenty of opportunities the rest of the way. Feliz has pitched fairly well this month, posting a 2.38 ERA and 0.88 WHIP across 11.1 innings. However, with just four strikeouts to this point, it is clear that he has not regained the dominant form displayed in previous years.(RotoWire, )

News: Manager Ron Washington confirmed Thursday that Feliz will have the first opportunity to close for the Rangers following Wednesday's trade of Joakim Soria, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. "I'm going to tell [Feliz] that I'm going to give him the ball," Washington said. "I'm going to give him the chance. It is up to him to do what he needs to with it. He's got a chance. That's all you can ask for." Impact: Feliz's strong surface numbers (2.61 ERA, 0.77 WHIP) in his seven appearances since rejoining the Rangers earlier this month would seem to make him a capable closer, but he's not nearly working with the same high-quality arsenal that made him one of the league's more dominant end-gamers from 2010 to 2011. He's struggled to regain velocity since his 2012 Tommy John operation, with his fastball averaging 92.2 miles per hour this season, about four ticks below its former peak. The dropoff in velocity has resulted in only four strikeouts for Feliz over 10.1 innings, forcing him to rely on his defense far too often to record outs. The Rangers don't have too many attractive alternative options in their bullpen to push Feliz for closing duties, so he should enjoy a decent leash in the ninth inning, even if his production doesn't warrant it.(RotoWire, )

News: Feliz is expected to close for the Rangers after Joakim Soria was traded to the Tigers on Wednesday, the Dallas Morning News reports. Impact: Corey Knebel, one of the two pitching prospects the Rangers acquired in the Soria deal, is likely to get a look in the ninth-inning role before the end of the season, but Feliz is expected to take the reins initially. The 26-year-old Feliz has posted a 2.61 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in seven appearances with the big club this season, and he saved 72 games for Texas from 2010 to 2011, but GM Jon Daniels was quick to point out that consistency is still an issue with the right-hander.(RotoWire, )

News: Feliz is a strong candidate to pick up save opportunities for the Rangers, now that Joakim Soria has been traded to the Tigers. Impact: With Soria out of the mix, Feliz, along with Neal Cotts, could both see opportunities to close games for manager Ron Washington. Feliz has better numbers to boast, owning a 2.61 ERA and 0.77 WHIP over 10.1 innings so far this season. The 28-year-old righty also has closer experience under his belt, having recorded 72 total saves with the Rangers from 2011-12. He's definitely worth a prospective bid in deeper and AL-only formats, and could be close to being owned universally if he wins the job outright.(RotoWire, )
