News: Schierholtz was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. Impact: Schierholtz will join the big club after just four games with Syracuse, filling the veteran depth role vacated by Nate McLouth (shoulder). In 99 games with the Cubs prior to his release, Schierholtz batted just .192/.240/.300 with six homers and 33 RBI, and it's hard to imagine the change of scenery will lead to a significant turnaround.(RotoWire, )

News: Whether and when Schierholtz gets called up to the major league roster could depend on the health of Nate McLouth, the Washington Post reports. Impact: McLouth is on the DL and getting his shoulder checked out, which leaves the Nationals' bench a little short on left-handed hitting options. Should the club determine that McLouth won't be able to help them down the stretch expect him to be shifted to the 60-day DL, which would open a spot on the 40-man roster for Schierholtz.(RotoWire, )

News: Schierholtz agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Nationals on Monday. Impact: Schierholtz was was released by the Cubs last Wednesday, but will provide the Nationals with depth in the outfield. He hit just .192/.240/.300 over 99 games with the Cubs this season, but the veteran has a good enough track record to be given a chance by the Nationals, albeit at the minor league level with Triple-A Syracuse.(RotoWire, )
