News: Scherzer shook off a rocky first two innings to keep the Tigers in the game in Tuesday's extra-inning victory over the Rays. He let in four runs over seven innings, striking out nine batters. Impact: Scherzer set the bar high coming into Tuesday's turn by striking out 25 batters and allowing seven hits, two walks and one run over his last 16 innings, but he was generally effective against the Rays. His major mistake came in the bottom of the first, when he served up a three-run homer to James Loney, but he allowed only two runners to reach base over his final five frames.(RotoWire, )

News: Scherzer (14-4) tossed eight shutout innings and struck out 14 Pirates on Thursday, allowing just three hits and two walks in the victory. Impact: The big K total helped Scherzer leapfrog Felix Hernandez and Stephen Strasburg for No. 2 in strikeouts across the league with 196. Scherzer hasn't been quite as masterful this year as he was last season, but he's been on fire lately, notching double-digit strikeout totals in three of his last five outings. He's cut his ERA from 3.34 to 2.98 in that span. He'll next draw the light-hitting Rays on Tuesday.(RotoWire, )

News: Scherzer tossed an 11-strikeout gem Saturday against the Blue Jays, giving up just one run on four hits in eight innings, but was denied the win after Joe Nathan notched another blown save. Impact: It's too bad that Scherzer wasn't allowed to pitch the ninth, as he was only at 106 pitches and had retired 14 of his last 16 batters. He has now given up just three runs in 15 innings over his last two starts but doesn't have a win to show for his performance over that span. Since June 22, Scherzer has only given up more than two runs once in nine starts, while recording double-digit strikeouts on three occasions over that stretch. He'll go for his 14th win of the season Thursday against the Pirates.(RotoWire, )
