News: Lindstrom (ankle) will join Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com reports. Impact: Lindstrom was forced to undergo surgery to repair a tear in the sheath of his left ankle back in May, but the right-hander has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment following a pair of live sessions. The ninth-inning role for the White Sox is wide open, with Jacob Petricka currently the preferred option after Zach Putnam (shoulder) hit the DL, and it's certainly possible Lindstrom could be given some consideration when healthy. He picked up six saves in 19 appearances to begin the year.(RotoWire, )

News: Lindstrom (ankle) will likely head out on a rehab assignment this weekend, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports. Impact: He threw another simulated game prior to Tuesday's game, and will likely need a couple minor league rehab appearances before rejoining the White Sox. Lindstrom mentioned after Tuesday's sim game that he wants to get back in the closer's role for Chicago. He had six saves in nine chances and posted a 3.32 ERA prior to hitting the DL, but Jacob Petricka has been pretty solid in the closer's role, so stashing Lindstrom is a gamble.(RotoWire, )

News: Lindstrom (ankle) will throw a simulated game Tuesday vs. the Tigers, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Impact: The White Sox will evaluate Lindstrom closely during the session before determining if the reliever is ready to go out on a rehab assignment. Lindstrom is on track to return from the DL in early August.(RotoWire, )

News: Lindstrom (ankle) threw live batting practice Thursday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports. Impact: The next step for Lindstrom will likely be a simulated game, before he'd head out on a rehab assignment. Everything the White Sox have said previously suggests that Lindstrom will return to the White Sox in early August, at which point he could slot back in at closer if Jake Petricka can't lock the job down.(RotoWire, )

News: Manager Robin Ventura said Lindstrom will go out on a rehab assignment the first week of August, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Impact: A previous report indicated Lindstrom might return in "early August," and it looks like he is still working on that timeline, albeit perhaps in the second week of the month. Ventura has yet to announce whether Lindstrom will be inserted back into the closer role upon his return, but that is likely given the position's instability since he hit the DL in May.(RotoWire, )

News: Lindstrom (ankle) could return in early August, the Daily Herald reports. Impact: He threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday and has another on tap for Monday; if all goes well, he should throw a simulated game later in the week. Assuming there are no flare-ups during that time, he could be on a rehab assignment by this time next week. Lindstrom said he will only need a handful of appearances in the minors before he is ready to return to duty, and is likely to re-assume the closer role.(RotoWire, )
