News: Appel is set to be promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi, the Houston Chronicle reports. Impact: Last year's top overall pick turned in his first quality start as a professional Thursday, striking out seven in six innings for High-A Lancaster. Through 12 starts for Lancaster this season, Appel has a 9.74 ERA and 1.91 WHIP, but evidently the Astros saw enough Thursday to bump him up to the next rung on the ladder. The 23-year-old has been working recently on some mechanical changes.(RotoWire, )

News: Appel rebounded Thursday with his second win of the season for High-A Lancaster, permitting only two runs on five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts over six innings against Stockton. Impact: After giving up seven earned runs in each of his previous two starts, Appel eclipsed five innings and five strikeouts for the first time this season. The 23-year-old right-hander recently worked on mechanical changes with Astros pitching coordinator Dyar Miller and Lancaster pitching coach Don Alexander.(RotoWire, )

News: Appel's next start at High-A Lancaster has been pushed back from Monday to Thursday, the Houston Chronicle reports. Impact: Appel, who has been dealing with tendinitis in his right thumb, will fit in some extra work during his upcoming bullpen sessions. While his first full professional season has been a disaster, Appel does not seem to be dealing with a serious injury. He recently received a cortisone shot, and also mentioned that he's been tinkering with his mechanics.(RotoWire, )

News: Appel had a cortisone shot in his right wrist during the last few weeks, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports. Impact: Appel's agent, Scott Boras, relayed the news Monday, mentioning that the injury is minor and may include tendinitis. Previously, Appel's right thumb came down with tendinitis in early June, but he has since made five starts at High-A Lancaster, going 1-3 with a 8.06 ERA, 1.791 WHIP, and 16:5 K:BB in 22.1 innings. His nightmare first-full professional season has significantly slowed his progress through the minors, but until the injuries fade away, the first pick of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft shouldn't lose much utility as a fantasy chess piece.(RotoWire, )
