News: The Giants placed Scutaro and infielder Ehire Adrianza on the 15-day disabled list before Friday night's game against the rival Dodgers. Impact: Scutaro returned to the disabled list with a strained lower back after playing just five games this season.(STATS, 6:46pm)

News: Scutaro (back) was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday. Impact: The Giants were hoping Scutaro would be able to assume a regular role upon his July 11 return, but his back issues have persisted and will send him back to the DL after just five games. Dan Uggla was recalled from Triple-A Fresno and figures to take over at second with Joe Panik (ankle) hobbled and struggling to produce.(RotoWire, )

News: Scutaro is out of the Giants' lineup again Thursday. Impact: Thursday's absence will mark Scutaro's second in a row and sixth in nine games since his activation from the DL. Scutaro's chronic back and neck issues are presumably lingering, and while he figures to take the field for San Francisco when he can, the team did sign Dan Uggla to a minor league deal earlier in the week, and he may work himself into the mix at the keystone eventually.(RotoWire, )

News: Scutaro is not in the lineup Wednesday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports. Impact: Ehire Adrianza will start at second base, and while Scutaro heads the Giants' depth chart at the keystone, he will likely be given regular days off, given his age and injury history.(RotoWire, )

News: Scutaro went 1-for-4 with a run in his return to action Sunday, and said he felt much better than he did when he first tried to return from injury July 12, the Bay Area News Group's Alex Pavlovic reports. Impact: His first attempt to come back from a back injury prior to the All-Star break did not go well, and he subsequently sat out the next three games with back and neck stiffness. The fact that he had positive reports following Sunday's affair is an encouraging sign for his ability to remain in the lineup on a somewhat regular basis going forward.(RotoWire, )

News: Scutaro (back, neck) is in the lineup Sunday vs. the Marlins, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports. Impact: Scutaro sat out the first two games after the All-Star break due to back and neck complications, but it appears the time off has made him fit to play. The 38-year-old's checkered medical history may prevent him from notching an everyday role at second base the rest of the way, but he'll likely still be the Giants' preferred option at the position over the likes of Joe Panik and Joaquin Arias.(RotoWire, )

News: Scutaro (back, neck) is out of the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Marlins, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports. Impact: Manager Bruce Bochy said Scutaro would be available off the bench Friday, despite the fact that he's now dealing with a stiff neck, but the 38-year-old didn't end up appearing in the game and remains out of the lineup Saturday. At this point, the Giants' hope that Scutaro could take on a regular role seems misguided.(RotoWire, )

News: Scutaro (back, neck) will be available to pinch hit Friday against the Marlins, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports. Impact: Scutaro's back tightened last Saturday as the game wore on, and manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that the 38-year-old is also dealing with a stiff neck. Regardless, Scutaro will be available off the bench Friday, but consider him day-to-day until he returns to the starting lineup.(RotoWire, )

News: Scutaro (back) remains out of the Giants' lineup Friday against the Marlins. Impact: The 38-year-old finally made his 2014 debut last Saturday, but his back tightened up as the game wore on and he was held out of Sunday's first-half finale as a result. It seems the rest provided by the All-Star break was not sufficient to treat the issue, which certainly doesn't bode well for his chances of remaining on the field every day moving forward. Joe Panik will man second base and bat second in his absence.(RotoWire, )
