News: Beckett (hip) appears to be a long shot to pitch again this year, though a return in September has not been officially ruled out, the Dodgers' official site reports. Impact: Beckett will either return as a starter or not at all, according to manager Don Mattingly. At this point, getting anything meaningful out of Beckett in 2014 appears unlikely.(RotoWire, )

News: The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list for the third time this season prior to their game Friday with the Milwaukee Brewers. Impact: Beckett, who is 6-6 with a 2.88 ERA in 20 starts for the Dodgers this season, has a left hip impingement. The move is retroactive to August 4. He is expected to be out about two weeks. The 14-year veteran made three starts since being reinstated on July 22 from the same injury which occurred on July 8. His first time on the disabled list was March 22 when he had a right-thumb contusion.(STATS, 7:40pm)

News: Beckett has a groin strain as well as the hip issue that landed him on the 15-day DL on Friday, but manager Don Mattingly "anticipates" Beckett will pitch again this season, the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett reports. Impact: When reports first surfaced that Beckett was headed to the DL, a report from MLB.com's Ken Gurnick stated that Beckett's teammates thought he was done for the season and that Beckett was considering retirement, as the hip injury will not heal without surgery. However, as long as Mattingly is not confirming those concerns, we have to entertain the notion that Beckett could indeed pitch again in 2014. Mattingly said Beckett will need 10 to 14 days rest before the team reevaluates him.(RotoWire, )

News: Beckett (hip) was officially placed on the 15-day DL on Friday, the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez reports. Impact: This was anticipated after he underwent an MRI on his injured hip Thursday. The injury won't heal without surgery and it's quite possible that he's done for the season, and he may even retire. Roberto Hernandez will replace Beckett in the rotation, and owners in single-season leagues without a DL spot to stash Beckett should consider cutting ties at this point.(RotoWire, )

News: Beckett underwent an MRI on his hip and will likely be placed on the DL, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. There's a chance he may miss the remainder of the season. Impact: Beckett was previously considered iffy for his scheduled start Friday, but it's now a sure thing that he'll be replaced by Roberto Hernandez, who was acquired by the Dodgers on Thursday. Beckett has been a bit shaky of late, so it's not overly surprising to see that an injury may have played a role. Hernandez could be in line for regular starts moving forward, should Beckett be forced to miss extended time.(RotoWire, )

News: Beckett is scheduled to start Friday against Milwaukee, but he could see that pushed back following Thursday's acquisition of Roberto Hernandez, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports. Impact: Beckett could probably use the rest, given the 6.55 ERA he's posted over his last five starts.(RotoWire, )
