News: Niese allowed three runs and nine hits in 7.1 innings Thursday to take the loss against the Braves. He issued one walk and struck out five. Impact: Niese allowed just one run over the first seven innings, but gave up a pair in the eighth to make his outing look worse than it really was. The veteran lefty continues to give the Mets quality innings, as he's allowed three or fewer earned runs in 23 of 25 starts this season. His average fastball velocity is down almost two mph, from 90.2 to 88.6, but he's still able to get outs, aided by a 1.93 GB:FB. Niese hasn't been as good away from home this year, and while his next start is on the road, it's not a spot in which he should do poorly, as he'll be pitching against the Marlins.(RotoWire, )

News: Niese (7-9) took the loss Friday against the Dodgers, giving up five runs (two earned) on eight hits over 6.2 innings pitched while walking three and striking out four hitters. Impact: The Mets' pitcher pitched well enough and may have had a shot at a win if not for the defense. Niese has only had two games all season long in which he's allowed more than three earned runs in a game. He currently sports a 3.47 ERA for the Mets.(RotoWire, )

News: Niese allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six in six innings to pick up the win in the Mets' 7-3 victory over the Cubs on Saturday. Impact: Niese cruised through the first six innings, allowing just one run, before running into trouble in the seventh. He allowed two runs and left with the bases loaded and no outs, but Vic Black retired the next three batters with no additional damage. Niese has now tossed back-to-back quality starts for the first time since he went on the disabled list in early July.(RotoWire, )
