News: Lackey powered back into the St. Louis postseason rotation picture with 7 2-3 dominant innings in St. Louis' 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night. Impact: Lackey (3-2, 4.50 ERA) was passed over in the just-completed three-game series against Milwaukee after complaining of a dead arm. The 35-year-old right-hander arrived at the trade deadline with a big-game reputation but was 2-2 with a 5.05 ERA in his first eight starts. (STATS, 4:03pm)

News: Lackey (14-9) picked up the win on Friday against the Reds as he gave up one run on six hits over 7.2 innings pitched, while striking out five hitters in the process. Impact: The Cardinals veteran pitcher picked a great night to bounce back from his last two starts as he stayed ahead of hitters all night. Lackey didn't allow a walk and admitted to reporters that the added rest may have been beneficial after being pushed back in the rotation. Lackey will next take the mound on Wednesday against the Cubs in Chicago.(RotoWire, )

News: Lackey will start Friday against the Reds, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com reports. Impact: Lackey's frustration seemed to boiled over his last time out, as he was ejected for arguing balls and strikes after giving up two runs in just two innings against Cincinnati. After Lackey admitted to experiencing somewhat of a "dead arm" sensation, manager Mike Matheny decided to skip him one time through the rotation, but the right-hander will return to oppose David Holmberg in Friday's series opener.(RotoWire, )

News: Lackey will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, placing him on track to start Friday's game, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Impact: The Cardinals made the call to skip Lackey's start Tuesday to allow Lance Lynn, Adam Wainwright and Shelby Miller to pitch on normal rest. Lackey has struggled lately, allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits over his last two starts (8.0 innings), so the team hopes the extra day off will allow him to be as physically ready as possible for Friday's projected start against Cincinnati.(RotoWire, )

News: Lackey will have his Tuesday start skipped to allow Lance Lynn, Adam Wainwright, and Shelby Miller to continue to pitch on normal rest, MLB.com reports. Impact: Lackey hasn't been sharp over his last three starts and Matheny is giving him some rest to try and get him back to 100 percent both physically and mentally.(RotoWire, )

News: Lackey was tossed from Wednesday's game mid-batter to start the third inning after arguing with home plate umpire Tom Hallion about balls and strikes. Impact: It was a bizarre scene as Hallion stepped out to signal to Lackey to stop talking and the Cardinals' starter seemed to calm down and then Hallion ejected him in the middle of Brayan Pena's at-bat. Lackey gave up two runs on four hits and a walk before getting ejected, but a win and a quality start were still attainable before his ejection, so this is pretty unfortunate for Lackey's owners. Tyler Lyons came in to relieve Lackey with no outs recorded in the third inning.(RotoWire, )
