News: Votto took groundballs Wednesday as he continues to take small steps on his way back from a left quadriceps strain, the Cincinnati Enquirer's C. Trent Rosecrans reports. "It's a real gradual recovery," manager Byran Price said of Votto's injury. "It's an injury that needs more than anything, beyond strengthening and therapy, it needs time to recover." Impact: The Reds will see how he recovers from Wednesday's activity, which comes after he took dry swings and began throwing earlier in the week. Rosecrans reported that Price would not commit to Votto returning or not returning this season, but the Reds' beat writer speculated that it would be unlikely for Votto to play again in 2014. For those in single-season leagues, dropping Votto is a defensible move at this point.(RotoWire, )

News: Votto (quadriceps) has begun taking dry swings and throwing, Mark Sheldon of reports. Impact: It may not sound like much, but the exercises represent Votto's first baseball-related activity of any kind since he was shut back down with the quad injury in early June. The Reds are sinking fast, and while the team has not given any indication that Votto could be shut down, it may still be an option depending on his progress in the next 10 days or so. Votto, in the first season of a 10-year, $225 million deal, has hit .255/.390/.409 with six homers in 62 games.(RotoWire, )

News: Votto (quadriceps) has been jogging and recent strength tests have been encouraging, but he hasn't started baseball activities yet, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Impact: Votto expressed his frustration at his lack of progress, the team's losing ways lately and the perception that he somehow isn't doing all he can to get back in a press conference Thursday. He's eligible to return Sept. 4, but right now, his ability to return on that date remains in question.(RotoWire, )

News: Votto (quadriceps) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Saturday. Impact: This is just a procedural move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, as Votto has missed close to six weeks already with the quad injury and still has yet to resume baseball activities. He'll be eligible to return Sept. 4, but it seems like a bit of a long shot to think Votto could be ready by that date.(RotoWire, )
