News: Nathan struck out the side in a a perfect ninth inning for his 21st save of the year Tuesday against the Angels. Impact: Perhaps the Tigers' trade for Joakim Soria motivated Nathan, as he was on top of his game Tuesday. Still, it's been mostly a mediocre season for the veteran, as he has five blown saves on the year to go with a 5.73 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 37.2 innings.(RotoWire, )

News: Nathan will remain the closer in Detroit following the acquisition of Joakim Soria,'s Jason Beck reports. Impact: Nathan's struggles from earlier in the season have already put him under fire, but the 39-year-old has bounced back to a degree, converting his last five save opportunities. His numbers remain a bit scary, however, as a 5.89 ERA and 1.53 WHIP are far from ideal for a typical closer. With Soria now lurking behind him, Nathan's leash surely just got a whole lot shorter. One would think it will only take one or two shaky outings from Nathan before manager Brad Ausmus decides to make the switch.(RotoWire, )

News: Nathan picked up his 20th save of the season Monday in a win over the Diamondbacks. Impact: Nathan is showing signs of life in this month after a horrific start to the season. The veteran closer has thrown scoreless innings in six of seven July appearances. Nathan has a 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over that span.(RotoWire, )

News: Nathan struggled Saturday, entering in the ninth inning of a tie game against the Indians and allowing three runs on two hits with two walks. According to Matthew B. Mowery of the Oakland Press, manager Brad Ausmus said, "I'm sure there's a possibility I could reach a point [of change] sometime. I'm not near that point. I'll let you know when I am." Impact: Nathan struggled through the month of June but had opened July with four scoreless innings. He had also converted his last four save opportunities, before the Indians loaded the bases and Carlos Santana cleared them. Time will tell as to whether the Tigers think about making a change at closer or whether the club attempts to bring in relief pitching via trade.(RotoWire, )
