News: Montero was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. Impact: With the Mariners acquiring Kendrys Morales, Montero was redundant on the big league roster. Few players have gone from top-5 prospect in all of baseball to uninteresting organizational designated hitter as fast as Montero. He's slashing an impressive .310/.374/.541 at Triple-A, but his career .258/.302/.396 slash line at the big-league level would barely fly at shortstop, let alone designated hitter.(RotoWire, )

News: Montero was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. Impact: The Mariners will immediately use Montero in Thursday's lineup with a left-hander starting for the Orioles in Wei-Yin Chen. While he remains with the big club, Montero should see regular duty at DH against lefty pitching, though he could be at risk of demotion as soon as Friday with the impending arrival of Kendrys Morales, whom the Mariners acquired in a trade with the Twins earlier in the day.(RotoWire, )
