News: Williams won his first start since being acquired by the Rangers, limiting Oakland to a run over six innings in Friday's 4-1 victory. Impact: Williams entered the start with a 6.04 ERA in 26 relief appearances, so it was quite the surprising performance. Whether he can be consistent for Texas remains to be seen.(STATS, 4:48pm)

News: Williams worked six strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out four in Friday's 4-1 win over the A's. Impact: Very few would have imagined that Williams, who was designated for assignment back on June 30 after struggling to a 6.04 ERA across 47.2 innings out of the Astros' bullpen, could come up with a performance of this caliber against the top team in the league. The veteran hurler seemed destined for just a one-start stint in Texas, but has certainly given the Rangers something to think about now.(RotoWire, )

News: The Rangers purchased Williams' contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday to start the opener of a series against AL West-leading Oakland. Impact: Williams was set to be the 52nd different player, and 31st pitcher, used by Texas this season. He was signed by the Rangers two weeks after being released by Houston.(STATS, 6:29pm)

News: The pitching-poor Texas Rangers have signed right-hander Jerome Williams and plan to start him Friday night against AL West-leading Oakland. The Rangers announced after Thursday's 4-2 loss to the New York Yankees that they had acquired the 32-year-old Williams. Impact: Williams was released by Houston earlier this month after going 1-4 with a 6.04 ERA in 14 relief appearances. Williams is 43-51 with a 4.45 ERA in nine seasons with San Francisco, the Cubs, Washington, the Angels and Astros.(STATS, 4:52pm)

News: Williams will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock and start Friday's game vs. the Athletics, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Impact: It's likely just a one-start appointment for Williams, after scheduled starter Nick Tepesch was scratched from the outing upon appearing in relief in Tuesday's 14-inning game against the Yankees. Going up against the league-best Athletics in hitter-friendly Arlington in his first start with a squad that has dropped 27 of its last 32 games, Williams can safely be ignored even as a streaming option in most formats.(RotoWire, )
