News: Arencibia hit his fourth homer of the year and struck out twice against the Yankees on Thursday. Impact: He got the start at DH for the second straight game, which kind of tells you where the Texas lineup is at these days, since Arencibia is still hitting a robust .141 on the season. But hey, he's homered twice in the last three games and three times in his last seven.(RotoWire, )

News: Arencibia went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a three-run home run in the Rangers' win over his former team, Toronto, on Friday night. Impact: Just recalled from Triple-A, he was playing first base for the first time, and with Carlos Pena having been designated for assignment, he could see more time there if he can continue to produce. It was just his second home run after getting off to a miserable start and being sent down earlier in the season, so he needs to hit with consistency if he wants a regular job.(RotoWire, )

News: Arencibia will start at first base and bat seventh Friday against the Blue Jays. Impact: It will mark Arencibia's first major league start at first base, but it looks like he may see regular time there after Carlos Pena was designated for assignment. Robinson Chirinos and Adam Rosales both figure to factor in at the position as well. In 20 games with the big club earlier this season, Arencibia hit just .133/.182/.233 (66 plate appearances), but he has hit .279/.320/.542 with 14 homers in 48 games with Triple-A Round Rock.(RotoWire, )

News: The Texas Rangers have recalled opening day catcher J.P. Arencibia from Triple-A Round Rock and may use him at first base. Impact: Arencibia played 48 games after being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on May 20. He started 20 of those games at first base.(STATS, 6:29pm)

News: The Rangers purchased Arencibia's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. Impact: With Geovany Soto also activated from the 60-day DL on Thursday, the Rangers will enter Friday's series opener vs. the Blue Jays with four catchers on their 25-man roster. However, Soto is believed to have the inside track for regular catching duties, so expect to see Arencibia as well as fellow backstop Robinson Chirinos compete for some reps at first base. Arencibia's never been regarded as adept behind the plate, and while he's capable of providing some decent pop and passable defense at first base, his horrid on-base skills make it difficult to justify giving him regular at-bats.(RotoWire, )
