News: Pence was held out of the Giants starting lineup Saturday for the first time since 2012, ending the longest consecutive starting streak in the majors at 331 games. Impact: The 2014 All-Star had not missed a start since Sept. 23, 2012, before getting a rare day off against San Diego by manager Bruce Bochy. Assured of a spot in next week's wild card game, San Francisco also did not start regulars Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval. Pence also went into the day with the majors' longest active streak for consecutive games played with 381.(STATS, 5:54pm)

News: Pence is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, according to Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News. Impact: Pence will get his first day off since 2012 as the Giants give most of their regulars a rest in advance of the postseason. Juan Perez will get the start in right field in Pence's place.(RotoWire, )

News: Pence went 0-for-4 with an RBI out of the leadoff spot Wednesday. Impact: With news of Angel Pagan (back) being shut down for the rest of the season, manager Bruce Bochy decided to slot Pence at the top of his lineup. He had success there earlier this year when Pagan was sidelined, seeing an increase in runs scored and an obvious decrease in RBI. Wednesday's decision could have been influenced by the Giants facing a lefty, though, as Gregor Blanco makes more sense batting leadoff when a righty is on the mound.(RotoWire, )
