News: Gonzalez struck out a career-high 12 batters and allowed just one hit through seven innings in the Nationals' 3-0 win over the New York Mets in the second game of day-night doubleheader Thursday as Washington salvaged a split. Impact: Gonzalez (10-10, 3.57 ERA) went 4-1 with a 2.48 ERA in his final five starts in the regular season, and he allowed two runs in 14 innings in back-to-back victories. Because he's the Nationals' only left-handed starter, Gonzalez could make the team's rotation for the playoffs, but he has gotten some stiff competition from Tanner Roark.(STATS, 5:58pm)

News: Gonzalez pitched a gem in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets, tossing seven scoreless innings with a season-high 12 strikeouts. He allowed a single and two walks. Impact: Gonzalez was scheduled to start Wednesday, but the game was rained out, giving him an extra day of rest for the second straight week. The veteran lefty had traded strikeouts for more positive results over the last couple of months, but that was not the case Thursday, as he fanned 10 or more batters for the first time this season. Overall, he ends the season with a 3.57 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 158.2 innings.(RotoWire, )

News: Gonzalez pitched seven strong innings to earn the win at Miami on Thursday. He allowed just two runs and six hits, while striking out five. Impact: Gonzalez was given an extra day of rest after the Nationals clinched the NL East on Tuesday, and it seems to have been a good move. His strikeouts are down a little during his last five starts, but the overall results have been good, posting a 2.84 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 31.2 innings during that span. The team has yet to set its rotation beyond Friday, but Gonzalez will probably make just one start against the Mets next week.(RotoWire, )

News: One day after clinching the NL East title, the Washington Nationals have given right-hander Blake Treinen a fill-in start against the Atlanta Braves. Gonzalez had been the scheduled starting pitcher in Wednesday night's game. Instead, Treinen is making his sixth start of the year. Impact: Washington manager Matt Williams also made some lineup adjustments. Michael Taylor is starting in center field and batting leadoff. Tyler Moore is playing first base and hitting cleanup. Left fielder Steven Souza, third baseman Kevin Frandsen, second baseman Jeff Kobernus and catcher Sandy Leon also are starting against the Braves.(STATS, 6:08pm)

News: Gonzalez will not start Wednesday as scheduled, with Blake Treinen getting the start instead, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. Impact: With the Nationals locking up the division Wednesday, Gonzalez will get a break from his scheduled start. It's unclear whether they will simply skip Gonzalez or just move him back a day, but with little left to play for the rest of the way, a lot of everyday starters will likely get a day off here and there to get ready for the playoffs.(RotoWire, )
