News: Holmberg was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Impact: Holmberg's second start for the Reds was just as disastrous as his first, as he was clobbered for six runs on five hits and four walks over 2.2 innings against the Braves on Thursday. Acquired from the Diamondbacks as part of the Ryan Hanigan trade this past offseason, Holmberg has struggled at Louisville as well (4.64 ERA, 1.66 WHIP), but the team isn't ready to completely give up on him yet. Daniel Corcino was recalled in the corresponding move and may be an option to start next Tuesday, with Homer Bailey still shut down with an elbow injury.(RotoWire, )

News: The Reds sent left-hander David Holmberg back Triple-A Louisville on Friday, a day after another rough start, and called up right-handed starter Daniel Corcino. Impact: Holmberg gave up six runs in 2 2-3 innings of an 8-0 loss to Atlanta on Thursday night. In two starts for Cincinnati this season, the left-hander has faced 37 batters and allowed 21 of them to reach base: 12 hits, seven walks, two hit batters, four homers.(STATS, 6:38pm)

News: Holmberg was hit hard against Atlanta on Thursday, surrendering six runs and five hits in just 2.2 innings. He issued four walks and struck out a pair. Impact: Holmberg struggled from the onset, but the third inning was the backbreaker, as he gave up five runs. The damage for Holmberg actually could have been worse, but reliever Pedro Villarreal stopped the bleeding by getting a strikeout with the bases loaded. Holmberg was roughed up in his previous start on July 8, so he's been unimpressive in limited action with the big club. Whether he makes another start could depend on the status of Homer Bailey, who is currently on the DL with an elbow injury. Then again, Holmberg was so unproductive Thursday that the Reds might try to find another option even if Bailey isn't ready. If Holmberg does get another starting nod, it would likely come at Pittsburgh on Aug. 30.(RotoWire, )

News: The Reds called up Holmberg from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports. Impact: Holmberg will jump right into the Reds' rotation and start Thursday against the Braves. He gave up five earned runs over 2.2 innings in a start with the Reds earlier this season, but he has thrown the ball well lately, posting a 3.34 ERA over his last 10 starts with Louisville.(RotoWire, )

News: Holmberg will start Thursday against the Braves, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Impact: It was widely assumed Holmberg would draw the assignment Thursday after he was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Louisville on Monday, but manager Bryan Price confirmed it prior to Tuesday's game. Holmberg was knocked around for five runs on seven hits (including three homers) over 2.2 innings against the Cubs in his Reds debut July 8, and he hasn't been much better at Louisville, with a 4.64 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 17 starts. Holmberg could head back down after the start depending on Homer Bailey's progress in his recovery from an elbow injury.(RotoWire, )

News: Holmberg was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Louisville on Monday, a sign he'll be called upon to make a spot start Thursday against the Braves, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Impact: Holmberg performed miserably in a spot start in July for the Reds, yielding seven hits (three home runs) and five runs allowed before he was pulled after 2.2 innings. He's hardly an inspiring streaming option this time around, but his presence on the 40-man roster will allow him to pick up the start with the big club.(RotoWire, )
