News: Trying to add offense at third base, the New York Yankees have acquired Chase Headley from the San Diego Padres for infielder Yangervis Solarte and right-hander Rafael De Paula. Impact: The 30-year-old Headley can become a free agent after this season. He's hitting .229 with seven homers and 32 RBIs but has a .339 average since July 4. He was a Gold Glove winner two years ago, when he hit .286 with 31 homers and a National League-leading 115 RBIs. (STATS, 2:08pm)

News: Headley was traded to the Yankees on Tuesday for Yangervis Solarte and High-A right-hander Rafael DePaula, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. Impact: The struggling Padres, who trail the Giants and Dodgers by 11.5 games heading into Tuesday's games, have started their sell-off. Headley is struggling overall this season (.229/.296/.355), but is batting .323 with four doubles and nine RBI in 65 July at-bats. He's just two years removed from an NL-leading 115 RBI in 2012 and should greatly benefit from the switch to Yankee Stadium. Headley will provide immediate help at third base, where starter Kelly Johnson is hitting just .222 in July. A free agent after this season, Headley is currently in Chicago with the Padres, but the Yankees hope to have him in uniform in time for Tuesday night's game.(RotoWire, )

News: Headley kept up his scintillating July on Friday, lining a two-run single to left-center field off the Mets' Bartolo Colon. Impact: After kicking off the month with a six-game hitting streak, Headley has continued to belt, tallying hits in five of seven contests. His line on the month -- .321/.321/.446 with one homer, eight RBI, five runs, and one stolen base in 56 at-bats -- has boosted his trade value, as the veteran resembles what contenders are searching for as July draws to a close. In the meantime, though, he'll continue to man the hot corner most days for the Padres.(RotoWire, )
