News: The Pirates will evaluate Morton's (hernia) immediate future based off of his Tuesday start. "If Charlie throws well it gives Vance (Worley) a bit of a breather, which is not the end of the world," GM Neal Huntington told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "If Charlie doesn't throw well, we'll bridge the gap and bring Vance in behind him and go from there." Impact: Morton, who hasn't pitched in the majors since August 15, allowed 26 runs in his last 39 innings prior to going on the DL. Pittsburgh is hoping that the time off gives him a fresh outlook, but Morton said just several days ago that he thought he was probably through for 2014. "My impression is that they want me to stay ready in case something bad happens to someone else," Morton told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "And my impression is for me to go out and pitch again, someone's going to have to get hurt or struggle."(RotoWire, )

News: Morton (hernia) threw a simulated game Tuesday and manager Clint Hurdle has planned a side session for Morton either Thursday or Friday followed by another simulated game Tuesday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Impact: Morton is still on the road to recovery from a sports hernia that has cause him to miss the past few weeks.
