News: Pierzynski went 3-for-4 with an RBI in his debut with the Cardinals on Saturday. Impact: Pierzynski made a good impression with his new team Saturday. His RBI single helped cap off a four-run seventh inning. With Yadier Molina out a few months as he recovers from a torn thumb ligament, Pierzynski stands to receive the bulk of playing time.(RotoWire, )

News: The St. Louis Cardinals have signed Pierzynski and he was in the starting lineup batting sixth for Saturday's game against the Cubs. The Cardinals have been looking for a steady presence behind the plate since All-Star Yadier Molina went down with a torn ligament in his right thumb on July 9. Molina underwent surgery on July 11 and is expected to miss 8-12 weeks. Impact: The left-handed hitting Pierzynski played 72 games this year with the Boston Red Sox, hitting .254 with four home runs before being released on July 16. He has a career average of .282 over 17 seasons with six teams.(STATS, 2:23pm)

News: Pierzynski will catch and bat sixth in his Cardinals debut Saturday, FOX Sports Midwest reports. Impact: Pierzynski was officially added to Cards' active roster Saturday, with George Kottaras designated for assignment in the corresponding move, and he'll jump right into the lineup against right-hander Jake Arrieta. In seven career plate appearances against Arrieta, Pierzynski has four hits, including two home runs, and two walks. Yadier Molina (thumb) isn't expected back until mid-September at the earliest, and Pierzysnki will likely split duties behind the plate with Tony Cruz until then, though Pierzysnki could end up emerging as the preferred option.(RotoWire, )

News: Pierzynski agreed to sign with the Cardinals on Friday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports. Impact: The veteran catcher is expected to join the Cardinals on Saturday in Chicago. It's a natural fit, as the Cardinals are a contending team that will be without Yadier Molina for the next 6-to-10 weeks. George Kottaras is reportedly leaving the team, either to join the Triple-A affiliate or possibly just to become a free agent once more. Tony Cruz and Pierzynski will share the catching duties in the short term. He had a .254/.286/.348 slash line in 72 games with the Red Sox before getting released, and it's probably best to take a wait-and-see approach in most formats.(RotoWire, )

News: Pierzynski was released by the Red Sox on Wednesday, Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports. Impact: Apparently, there was little market on the trade front for the veteran catcher, who will be free to sign with any organization. In his half season with the Red Sox, he put together a modest .254/.286/.348 line with four home runs, 31 RBI, and 19 runs in 256 at-bats.(RotoWire, )

News: The Red Sox have designated Pierzynski for assignment and called up catching prospect Christian Vazquez from Triple-A Pawtucket. Impact: The 37-year-old Pierzynski hit .254 with four home runs and 31 RBIs in 72 this season. He signed an $8.25 million, one-year contract with the Red Sox as a free agent in December.
