News: Desmond (hand) is back in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies. Impact: Manager Matt Williams suggested a Saturday return was likely for Desmond, and sure enough, the 28-year-old is penciled in to man short and bat sixth against lefty Cole Hamels. Williams even said Friday that, "If it were October, [Desmond] would play," so the decision to sit him out a game was seemingly just precaution. Desmond will look to improve upon his 7-for-38 career mark against Hamels.(RotoWire, )

News: Desmond (hand) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies. Impact: Orioles reliever Darren O'Day plunked Desmond on his right hand in the eighth inning of Thursday's game, but X-rays were negative and the Nationals are hopeful that it's not a DL situation. He'll miss at least one start as a result of the injury, however, and it wouldn't be a surprise if Desmond remained limited at least through the weekend. Danny Espinosa will take over at short in the meantime.(RotoWire, )

News: Desmond (hand) is expected to return to the lineup Saturday, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports. "If it were October, he would play [Friday]," manager Matt Williams said. Impact: It sounds like the decision to hold Desmond out of Friday's lineup is largely precautionary, after he was hit by a Darren O'Day pitch in the eighth inning Thursday. Danny Espinosa is getting the start at short in the opener against the Phillies, but Desmond should be back to take on lefty Cole Hamels on Saturday.(RotoWire, )

News: X-rays on Desmond's right hand came back negative, but he is unlikely to start Friday's game in Philadelphia, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post. Impact: The Nationals hope Desmond can avoid the disabled list, and with three games remaining until the All-Star break, the team doesn't necessarily have to make a quick decision. Desmond stayed in Thursday's game after getting hit by a pitch in the top of the eighth inning, but he struggled to throw the ball during mid-inning warmups, and was subsequently removed from the contest. Danny Espinosa, who replaced Desmond at shortstop in Thursday's game, will likely get the nod if Desmond can't go Friday.(RotoWire, )

News: Desmond was removed from Thursday's game against the Orioles in the eighth inning, after getting hit on the hand by a pitch, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. Impact: Desmond stayed in to run the bases, but then came out of the game once he tried to throw the ball during warmups for the bottom of the eighth inning. His inability to throw doesn't bode well for his chances of making a quick return, and he'll likely have to undergo X-rays. Danny Espinosa replaced Desmond at shortstop.(RotoWire, )
