News: Ross (forearm) will not make Wednesday's scheduled start and will be shut down for the remainder of the season. Impact: Rather than risk the chance of Ross worsening the flexor strain in his forearm heading into the winter, the Padres will take a prudent approach and have the right-hander skip his final turn as a precaution. He'll likely rest the next several weeks to aid the recovery of his arm, but he should otherwise be on track for a normal offseason. Ross took an important step forward in 2014, accruing a 2.81 ERA and 1.21 WHIP while striking out nearly a batter per inning in his 31 starts. Though he'll cede Wednesday's start to Joe Wieland, Ross will enter next season as a worthy co-ace to Andrew Cashner.(RotoWire, )

News: Ross (elbow) was able to play catch Friday, but it's still undetermined if he'll be able to start again this season since he continues to have soreness in his forearm, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Impact: With little time remaining in the season, the Padres may ultimately decide to sit Ross for the rest of the year so they don't risk his long-term future. Until further notice, he'll be on the shelf while the Padres cautiously make their decision.(RotoWire, )

News: A determination about Ross' (arm/elbow) availability for the remainder of the season likely won't be made until Sunday at the earliest, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports. Impact: Ross is dealing with arm/elbow soreness, and the team will either elect to shut him down for the season or allow him to make one final start. His replacement in the rotation, Robbie Erlin, pitched six innings of one-run ball Thursday, so it certainly wouldn't be surprising if the Padres thought it would be more beneficial to play it safe with Ross and allow Erlin another start before the conclusion of the 2014 season. Owners should continue to monitor Ross' status heading into next week.(RotoWire, )

News: The Padres haven't made a decision to shut Ross (arm soreness) down for the season, but manager Bud Black said the next few days will be "critical," MLB.com's Corey Brock reports. Impact: He won't make his scheduled start Thursday, but if his arm starts to feel better after bullpen sessions, there's a chance he could make a start this weekend, which could put him in line for another start next week before the season ends. However, if his arm soreness does not improve, it sounds like there's a chance Ross's 2014 season could be over. Robbie Erlin will make the start Thursday, and Ross's owners should continue to monitor this situation closely.(RotoWire, )

News: Manager Bud Black said Ross will have his Thursday start pushed back a few days, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Impact: Black said Ross is dealing with a little general soreness in his arm, but that "his bullpen sessions have been quality." Ross had his shortest start of the season Saturday, going just three innings against the Diamondbacks. Robbie Erlin will make Thursday's start in place of Ross.(RotoWire, )

News: Ross lasted only three innings, giving up five hits, two walks, and six runs (four earned) while striking out four in a sloppy game against the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Impact: It was the All-Star's shortest outing of the season, as Ross allowed all six of his runs in the first two innings. Though Ross wasn't sharp, he didn't get help from his defense, either. The Padres committed two costly errors that led to two unearned runs. Nonetheless, Ross still has a 2.81 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP and 195 strikeouts this year.(RotoWire, )
