News: Morton underwent surgery Friday to repair the labrum in his right hip, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Impact: Morton will have an estimated timetable of 6-8 months for recovery from the injury. He has undergone major surgery three times in the past four years, including surgery on the labrum in his left hip in October of 2011. The Pirates will be without his services for the postseason and Morton's availability for the start of next season could be questionable.(RotoWire, )

News: Morton was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a sports hernia, ending his season with playoff-bound Pittsburgh. Impact: Morton came off the DL on Sept. 16 and beat Boston, but pain intensified to the point he couldn't pitch again this season.(STATS, 0:35am)

News: Morton (groin) was placed on the 60-day DL on Wednesday. Impact: Morton tried, admirably, to pitch through his sports hernia, but with the pain in his groin, abdominal and hip areas persisting, the decision was made to just shut him down for the year. He acknowledged last week that surgery is a "possibility." Chaz Roe was claimed off waivers from the Yankees to take Morton's spot on the Pirates' 40-man roster.(RotoWire, )

News: Morton is dealing with groin, abdominal and hip pain and will miss his scheduled start Sunday, the Pittsburgh Tribune's Travis Sawchik reports. Impact: He said he was discouraged by his bullpen session Thursday and will be evaluated next week, adding that surgery is a "possibility." It sounds like those chasing counting stats in single-season mixed leagues might be best served to move on from Morton. Vance Worley will get the start Sunday in Morton's place. The best-case scenario for Morton's owners is that he feels better next week and can make his final start of the season Sept. 26 in Cincinnati.(RotoWire, )

News: Morton came off the disabled list to gain his first victory since July 2, and the Pirates beat the Boston Red Sox 4-0 on Tuesday night for their ninth win in 11 games. Impact: Sidelined since Aug. 16 because of right hip inflammation and a sports hernia, Morton allowed four hits in five innings, struck out six and walked two. He had been 0-3 with a 5.09 ERA in his eight previous starts.(STATS, 6:34pm)

News: The Pirates will evaluate Morton's (hernia) immediate future based off of his Tuesday start. "If Charlie throws well it gives Vance (Worley) a bit of a breather, which is not the end of the world," GM Neal Huntington told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "If Charlie doesn't throw well, we'll bridge the gap and bring Vance in behind him and go from there." Impact: Morton, who hasn't pitched in the majors since August 15, allowed 26 runs in his last 39 innings prior to going on the DL. Pittsburgh is hoping that the time off gives him a fresh outlook, but Morton said just several days ago that he thought he was probably through for 2014. "My impression is that they want me to stay ready in case something bad happens to someone else," Morton told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "And my impression is for me to go out and pitch again, someone's going to have to get hurt or struggle."(RotoWire, )
