News: A person familiar with the deal says the Cleveland Indians have traded starter Justin Masterson to the St. Louis Cardinals. Impact: Masterson, who is in the final year of his contract, was dealt for outfielder James Ramsey, said the person who spoke Wednesday to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the teams have not commented. Masterson, who is on the disabled list, has been a disappointment for the Indians this season. He began the year as Cleveland's No. 1 starter but has underperformed after turning down a contract extension from the club in spring training. (STATS, 2:54pm)

News: Masterson (knee) will make his Cardinals debut Saturday vs. the Brewers, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports. Impact: In electing to move Carlos Martinez back to the bullpen 10 days ago, the Cardinals already had a pre-existing void in their rotation, which Masterson will be tabbed to fill. He's had a rough go of things this season with a 5.51 ERA over 98 innings, but a 4.08 FIP suggests he could be in line to generate some better results over the final two months of the season.(RotoWire, )

News: Masterson (knee) was traded to the Cardinals on Wednesday, MLB Network's Peter Gammons reports. Impact: The Cardinals were one of several teams rumored to be interested in higher-end options such as the Rays' David Price and the Red Sox's Jon Lester to upgrade their rotation before the deadline, but the high asking price for either pitcher likely motivated the team to settle on Masterson. The 29-year-old was striking out nearly a batter an inning over 19 starts with the Indians, but a 4-6 record, 5.51 ERA and 1.65 WHIP have sullied his fantasy value up to this point. He was set to come off the DL to start for the Indians on Friday, so it's possible his new team might elect to keep him on a similar schedule. Masterson's arrival ensures that Carlos Martinez will remain in the bullpen for the foreseeable future.(RotoWire, )

News: Masterson (knee) will be activated to start Friday's game against the Rangers, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports. Impact: Masterson was originally scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday after a successful Tuesday bullpen session, although he wasn't necessarily happy about that course of action. It appears the Indians have since had a change of heart, however, as manager Terry Francona confirmed that the right-hander will take the hill Friday. Masterson hasn't pitched for the Tribe since July 7 and owned a less-than-spectacular 5.51 ERA before landing on the DL. If Masterson's available, fantasy owners may want to take a wait-and-see approach before rushing to the waiver wire, as there's always the slight risk of another poor outing.(RotoWire, )

News: Masterson (knee) tossed a bullpen session Tuesday and hopes to return after one more rehab start Friday, MLB.com reports. Impact: Maasterson wasn't thrilled with having to make one more rehab start, so he's fully expected to be given the green light to return after his next outing Friday.(RotoWire, )

News: Masterson (knee) will require another rehab start Friday at Triple-A Columbus, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Impact: The Indians were toying with the idea of activating Masterson from the DL to start for the big club that day, but the team will give Zach McAllister the opportunity to stick around in the rotation a little longer. Masterson was solid in his first rehab outing Sunday at Triple-A, covering five innings and allowing two runs while striking out six.(RotoWire, )

News: Masterson (knee) will make a rehab start at Triple-A on Sunday and could rejoin the Indians for a start Friday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Impact: Masterson's been progressing well since coming down with the knee issues in early July and should be able to slide back into the rotation Friday if things go well Sunday.(RotoWire, )

News: Masterson (knee) will throw from a mound Thursday and is scheduled to make a rehab start for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports. Impact: Masterson is eligible to come off the disabled list July 23, but under this current timetable, he wouldn't return until next weekend's serious against the Royals. He hasn't taken the hill for the Tribe since July 7 due to knee inflammation, but it looks as if he'll rejoin the rotation before the end of the month, provided his rehab goes as planned. The Indians rotation is a bit short-handed at the moment, so the return of the 29-year-old righty will surely be welcomed.(RotoWire, )
