News: Verlander surrendered four earned runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings in a win over the Twins on Saturday. He also struck out six and walked three. Impact: The win brings Verlander's record back up to .500 at 11-11, but he wasn't able to bring down his ERA on the season, which now sits at a very non-Verlander-like 4.82 through 26 starts. It was nice to see him grab the victory after departing early in his last start with shoulder inflammation, but the Tigers (and owners) will want the 31-year-old Cy Young winner to tighten things up in the final month of the season, especially with the Tigers battling for their playoff lives.(RotoWire, )

News: Verlander (shoulder) has been confirmed as the starter for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins. Impact: Shoulder soreness cut Verlander's last start short after 40 pitches, and while an MRI revealed just inflammation, the Tigers decided to play it safe and skip the right-hander's next turn. Upon completion of a bullpen session Thursday, he received clearance to oppose Trevor May in Saturday's nightcap, but the Twins aren't the pushovers they used to be, having scored more runs than any team in baseball since the All-Star break (158).(RotoWire, )

News: Verlander (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session Thursday and is on track to start one game of Saturday's double-header against Minnesota, MLive's James Schmehl reports. Impact: Verlander threw 35 pitches, which was enough to determine he'll be ready to return to the mound Saturday. In his last outing on Aug. 11, which he departed after just one inning, Verlander allowed five runs on four hits and issued a pair of walks. He'll look to rebound, but the Tigers could very well have him on a pitch count in hopes of avoiding an aggravation of his shoulder issue.(RotoWire, )

News: Verlander could rejoin the Detroit Tigers' rotation on Saturday. The right-hander threw for the second straight day Wednesday and said it's ''strong to quite strong'' that he will start one game of a doubleheader against Minnesota. Impact: Verlander will throw a light bullpen Thursday. He is 10-11 with a 4.76 ERA in 25 starts this season. (STATS, 6:11pm)

News: Verlander (shoulder) is scheduled to toss a light bullpen session Thursday with the intention of starting one game of Saturday's doubleheader at Minnesota, James Schmehl of MLive.com reports. Impact: It's unclear if Verlander's pitch count will be capped Saturday, but his first appearance since a disaster on Aug. 11 will soon come to pass.(RotoWire, )

News: Verlander (shoulder) played catch for approximately 10 minutes from 60 feet Tuesday, George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press reports. Speaking of the session, Verlander said, "Definitely felt a whole lot better. There wasn't that can't-get-loose feeling. Arm felt loose and felt good." Impact: With the hope that he'll return Friday in Minnesota, the throwing session effectively doubled as a bullpen session. Expect him to fit in a bit more activity before week's end, but his first appearance since Aug. 11 will likely include a capped pitch count, which has yet to be released.(RotoWire, )

News: Verlander (shoulder) hopes to start next Friday at the Twins, the Associated Press reports. Impact: Verlander was diagnosed with shoulder inflammation after leaving his last start with soreness after one inning. He isn't scheduled to pick up a baseball until Tuesday, when he will try some short tossing. Manager Brad Ausmus said Verlander's schedule will be based entirely on how he feels then, but the goal is for him to start next Friday.(RotoWire, )

News: Verlander has inflammation in his right shoulder. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus says an MRI on Verlander's shoulder revealed no structural damage but the Cy Young winner will likely miss at least one start for the slumping Tigers. Impact: Verlander left Monday night's 11-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates after giving up five runs in one inning. He complained of discomfort in the shoulder but Ausmus stressed the initial plan for Verlander is rest and not surgery. (STATS, 11:28pm)
