News: Encarnacion (quadriceps) will likely need to go on a rehab assignment before rejoining the Jays, SporstNet's Barry Davis reports. Impact: Gibbons said the team had been overly optimistic about Encarnacion's return date, and after a minor setback over the weekend, a return next week would be a positive development. The skipper announced that Encarnacion would not return from the 15-day DL before the end of the Jays' current road trip, which concludes Sunday, so hopefully he can go out on a rehab assignment in the coming days to make a return next week a reality. Juan Francisco and Dan Johnson should see most of the starts at first base in the short term.(RotoWire, )

News: Manager John Gibbons said he does not expect Encarnacion (quadriceps) to return from the 15-day DL before the end of the Blue Jays' road trip, which concludes Sunday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports. Impact: After suffering a minor setback in his recovery from the quad injury over the weekend, Encarnacion will remain in rest mode for the next couple of days. Furthermore, Gibbons also announced Adam Lind isn't expected to return before the end of the weekend either, leaving the Blue Jays to count on the likes of Juan Francisco and Dan Johnson to man first base for the next several games.(RotoWire, )

News: Encarnacion (quadriceps) suffered a "minor" setback Friday and will be shut down for a few days, MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm reports. Impact: There had been some talk that Encarnacion could return from the disabled list next week, but that may no longer be the case. There's officially no timetable for his return, but this latest setback almost certainly rules out a return in July. Dan Johnson and Juan Francisco will continue to benefit from Encarnacion's absence, but neither player is much of a fantasy option.(RotoWire, )

News: The Blue Jays believe Encarnacion (quadriceps) could return from the disabled list next week, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. Impact: The team has already tentatively scheduled a batting practice and fielding session for Encarnacion on Thursday to test out his quad, and depending on how he feels during those activities, an activation would begin to seem imminent. The Blue Jays could sorely use a power bat like Encarnacion back in their lineup, with the team forced to rely on replacement-level talents such as Dan Johnson, Steve Tolleson and Munenori Kawasaki to hold down everyday gigs at present.(RotoWire, )

News: Encarnacion (quad) is scheduled to take batting practice and field ground balls Thursday, the National Post reports. Impact: Encarnacion appears to be progressing as anticipated since hitting the DL on July 7, and more information will likely be released following Tuesday's session. If all goes well, there's a good chance he could begin a rehab assignment over the weekend.(RotoWire, )

News: Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopolous suggested there's a chance Encarnacion could begin a rehab assignment by next weekend, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports. Impact: The Blue Jays have passed along little information on Encarnacion's status since he landed on the disabled list July 7, but the fact that Anthopolous merely has optimism about the slugger beginning a rehab assignment suggests he hasn't hit any notable setbacks in his recovery. The Blue Jays will evaluate him over the course of the week before making any sort of pronouncement on a stint in the minors.(RotoWire, )

News: Encarnacion (quad) still has no timetable for a return, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports. Impact: Given the duration of his absence, a minor league rehab assignment may be necessary before Encarnacion is activated. According to Jays manager John Gibbons, Encarnacion is making good progress in his recovery thus far.(RotoWire, )
