News: Gonzales has the flu and didn't travel with the Cardinals for their road trip to Chicago, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports. Impact: It's unclear if Gonzales' health will improve enough in time for him to join the Cardinals for their final series of the season with the Diamondbacks over the weekend, but with ample bullpen arms available, there's no need for the team to rush him back. Gonzales was reliable when called upon as a spot starter in September, and while he won't be a member of the Cardinals' postseason roster, he could become a permanent member of the rotation at some point in 2015.(RotoWire, )

News: In just his fifth major league start, Gonzales struck out nine and allowed one run over 5 2-3 innings to help the NL Central-leading Cardinals beat the Rockies 4-1 for their third straight win Sunday. Impact: Gonzales, the Cardinals' first-round pick in the 2013 draft, gave up two hits over the first five innings and carried a 3-1 lead into the sixth. He surrendered a two-out single to Brandon Barnes before leaving. (STATS, 7:37pm)

News: Gonzales pitched 5.2 innings to pick up the win against Colorado on Sunday, allowing just one run on four hits and four walks while fanning nine. Impact: Gonzales has been terrific since returning to the club in late August, surrendering just three runs across 15 innings while striking out 17. The lefty is just 22 and has enormous potential. It's not crazy to think he could slot in to the middle of the Cardinals' rotation to start the 2015 season.(RotoWire, )

News: Gonzales will start Sunday in the place of Michael Wacha, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Impact: Gonzales has already received four starts over the course of the season with the Cardinals. Given that he has pitched mainly out of the bullpen for the Cardinals as of late, it's unclear how many innings or pitches the Cardinals will allow him to throw Sunday.(RotoWire, )
