News: Cumpton was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Impact: Cumpton wasn't on track to pitch again before the All-Star break after he started Wednesday, giving up four runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings in defeat. With Francisco Liriano set to rejoin the rotation over the weekend and Gerrit Cole perhaps not far off, it remains to be seen whether Cumpton will come out of the break as a member of the Pirates' rotation.(RotoWire, )

News: Cumpton (3-3) allowed four runs on nine hits with three walks over 3.1 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Cardinals. Impact: Not a great outing for Cumpton, who was called up to replace Gerrit Cole during his stint on the disabled list. Cole is eligible to come back July 19, so Cumpton may get only more start. The 25-year-old isn't forcing his way into a permanent gig with outings like this.(RotoWire, )

News: Cumpton was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Impact: As expected, Cumpton was brought up to start in place of Gerritt Cole (lat), who was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list to allow the move. The 25-year-old Cumpton has a 4.61 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with the Pirates this season, but the inflated numbers came largely from one start in which he allowed 10 earned runs over just 3.2 innings against the Dodgers. He will get at least a couple starts with the team during Cole's second stint on the disabled list, but the All-Star break will limit the games Cole will miss with the injury.(RotoWire, )

News: Cumpton will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Gerrit Cole (lat) for Wednesday's start in St. Louis, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Impact: With the All-Star break approaching and Cole's DL stint backdated to July 4, Cumpton may only get the one start. Through nine starts and 52.2 innings this season, Cumpton owns a 4.61 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB ratio. However, while he isn't very good at missing bats, the 25-year-old righty has actually done alright for himself this season, with the exception of an 11-run disaster against the loaded Dodgers lineup in late May.(RotoWire, )
