News: Wacha gave up two runs on six hits while striking out one in 4.2 innings Saturday against the Reds. Impact: Wacha failed to qualify for the win, as he couldn't make it past the fifth inning. The 78 pitches he threw were the most since returning from his shoulder injury earlier this month. The 23-year-old will take the mound again Friday at Arizona.(RotoWire, )

News: Wacha will start Saturday against the Reds, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com reports. Impact: The 23-year-old struggled against Cincinnati his last time out, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over just four innings. Manager Mike Matheny said afterward that Wacha just "doesn't look right," pointing to a drop in fastball velocity as a reason to skip him one turn through the rotation. Apparently, the club is now confident enough to return him to the hill, but Wacha may have a short leash until he proves he's back at full strength.(RotoWire, )

News: The Cardinals have pushed back struggling Michael Wacha and plan to start rookie lefty Marco Gonzales instead on Sunday. Impact: The 23-year-old Wacha allowed five earned runs and walked three in four innings his last start. As a rookie he was the NL championship series MVP, and he's 5-6 this year with a 3.14 ERA in 17 starts. (STATS, 6:37pm)

News: Wacha's start Sunday will be skipped and Marco Gonzales will start in his place, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Impact: Wacha "doesn't look right" according to manager Mike Matheny. His fastball is reportedly down in velocity, which is a pitch he specifically relies heavily on. The issue may explain why he struggled in his last outing, allowing six runs (five earned) over just four innings of work against the Reds on Tuesday.(RotoWire, )

News: Wacha gave up six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four innings Tuesday against the Reds. Impact: The Cardinals are slowly building up Wacha's pitch count, as he threw 70 pitches (44 strikes) Tuesday. With a comfortable lead in the division, the Cardinals have their sights set on the postseason, and Wacha quite clearly is knocking his rust off at the big-league level, which does't concern the team. However, with each outing he should get better and be able to pitch deeper into games, making him still a valuable asset in fantasy leagues down the stretch. He'll pitch again Sunday at home against the Rockies.(RotoWire, )
