News: Marlins manager Mike Redmond told MLB Network Radio that Fernandez will begin to play catch in the coming days. Impact: According to Redmond, "everything his progressing perfectly" with Fernandez's recovery from Tommy John surgery. With the usual 12-to-18 month timetable for a recovery, Fernandez could return as early as mid-May if everything continues to progress at the optimal rate, but given his long-term value to the organization, it would hardly be surprising to see his recovery fall later on the range of potential outcomes.(RotoWire, )

News: Fernandez (elbow) will visit a doctor in Los Angeles on Thursday in hopes of receiving clearance to begin throwing in October, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. Impact: Fernandez hasn't hit any snags in his recovery from Tommy John surgery at this point, but he hasn't really cleared any major hurdles either. Once he starts resuming throwing, the Marlins should have a better idea of his recovery timeline, but the hope is that he'll return to the rotation by the All-Star break.(RotoWire, )
