News: Nieuwenhuis was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday. Impact: Although Ruben Tejada passed his concussion tests after being drilled by a 94-mph fastball Wednesday, the Mets decided to play it safe and add some middle-infield insurance in Wilmer Flores ahead of Thursday's game. Nieuwenhuis will return to Las Vegas, where he has posted a .272/.318/.539 batting line with 10 homers in 49 games to this point.(RotoWire, )

News: Nieuwenhuis is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports. Impact: Nieuwenhuis seems to have carved out a more consistent role of late, having started four of the past five games for the Mets. He'll get a day off Sunday afternoon, however, with Bobby Abreu taking over in left field. The Mets will begin a series in Seattle on Monday, which will likely mean Abreu will see reps as the DH, leaving an outfield spot open for Nieuwenhuis to resume.(RotoWire, )
