News: Phelps (elbow) has continued playing catch, and will be reevaluated in another week, MLB.com reports. Impact: Phelps has yet to throw off a mound, but likely will within the coming days. He hasn't suffered any setbacks, but a return before the first or second week of September seems unlikely.(RotoWire, )

News: Phelps (eblow) is scheduled to play catch again on Thursday and will throw off a mound this week, MLB.com reports. Impact: "I think at this stage, we're going day by day," Phelps said. "We'll hopefully amp it up when we get through this week. I took two weeks off, it's not like I'll be on the mound this weekend." The team decided earlier in the week that Phelps will return as a reliever, so once he returns to a mound, he should be able to speed up his recovery.(RotoWire, )

News: Phelps (elbow) played catch Wednesday, and has been pain-free for over a week, MLB.com reports. Impact: This is obviously good news, and the fact that he's been able to throw without pain suggests he's recovered since landing on the disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow. The team is now officially committed to bringing Phelps back as a reliever rather than a starter in an effort to get him back quicker, so he may return sooner than initially anticipated.(RotoWire, )

News: Phelps (elbow) may return to the bullpen rather than rejoin the starting rotation in an effort to speed up his recovery, according to manager Joe Girardi, MLB.com reports. Impact: Phelps threw 50 times from 60 feet on Monday and reported feeling good. Girardi indicated that he's unsure of how he'll use Phelps when he's healthy, but if he uses him out of the bullpen, he wouldn't need as long to build back his arm strength.(RotoWire, )

News: Phelps threw 50 times from 60 feet Monday, after which an MRI was performed on his recovering right elbow, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. Impact: Phelps stated that he's felt no discomfort in the elbow in more than a week, but the fact that he's throwing is an encouraging first step in his recovery. If all goes well, a return during the second week of September is his best-case scenario.(RotoWire, )
