News: Punto could be a candidate to start at second base Friday, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports. Impact: Punto was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, and provided he remains free of hamstring discomfort, look for him to start in the infield for the Athletics. Alberto Callaspo committed several defensive mistakes at second base during the team's previous series against the White Sox, so manager Bob Melvin may look to sure up the position during the important upcoming series in Seattle. Punto isn't much of a threat with the stick, however, so don't look too far into this from a fantasy perspective.(RotoWire, )

News: Punto, on the disabled list since Aug. 3 due to a strained right hamstring, was activated Tuesday. Impact: Punto is more of a depth player at a few positions who gives manager Bob Melvin a switch-hitting option when needed, but without a starting spot (not to mention his .579 OPS this season) his production will probably be limited with such little time left in the regular season.(RotoWire, )

News: Punto will test out his hamstring on the field Saturday and says he feels much better overall, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports. Impact: Punto received a cortisone shot three days ago and could be activated from the DL in a the near future. However, upon his activation he'll still be just a platoon/utility option for Oakland, making him an afterthought in most leagues.(RotoWire, )

News: Punto (hamstring) received a cortisone shot for his strained hamstring Tuesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. Impact: Punto got the shot in an effort to move closer to making a return from an injury to his hamstring that has sidelined him for over a month. He's been progressing well and was able to take batting practice last week, but he's still probably a few days away from rejoining the team.(RotoWire, )
