News: Boggs said he should have undergone hernia surgery earlier, the Boston Globe reports. "I kick myself for not taking care of it sooner than I did," Boggs said. "To see the effect it had on me and my career, and how I've had to start all over again, convincing people I can get back to what I was, has been a pretty humbling experience for me."
Impact: Boggs, who pitched an inning and struck out two Tuesday against Northeastern University, put off surgery when the problem first arose in 2013 and went from closer to Triple-A pitcher in a matter of weeks. He's kicked around since then with Rockies, White Sox and Giants before undergoing surgery in the offseason. Boggs is an under-the-radar relief option for Boston this spring who could end up carving out some sneaky value in holds leagues.

News: Boggs signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox on Monday that includes and invite to spring training, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
Impact: Boggs hasn't seen time in the majors since 2013, playing most of 2014 in Triple-A between two different organizations, struggling with both. The 30-year-old will need to prove something in spring training if he wants a chance at a spot in the Red Sox's bullpen.
