News: Pineda and the Yankees avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.1 million deal Friday, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
Impact: If he can avoid the injury issues that repeatedly disrupted his progress early on in his career, Pineda should provide the Yankees with a strong return on this deal. Aside from a diminished strikeout rate, Pineda was as strong in 2014 as he was in his highly encouraging 2011 rookie season. Indeed, despite his K/9 dropping from 9.11 to 6.96, Pineda improved his ERA from 3.74 to 1.89 while showing significant improvement with his BB/9 and HR/9, too. He'll start the year second in the Yankees' rotation.
