Debuting in 2006, the four GEICO Racing Presidents from Mt. Rushmore are 12-foot oversized mascots who race from center field to first base during the fourth inning of every Nationals home game. In five years of racing, Teddy Roosevelt has never won a race. Going into Opening Day 2011, Abraham Lincoln leads the pack with 140 wins, followed by Thomas Jefferson with 91 victories. George Washington has crossed the finish line first 96 times. Teddy's losing streak has earned him a rabid fan base and inspired blogs in his honor. See MLB's other racing mascots here.

Nationals Park is the nation's first professional sports venue to be LEED Silver Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. The ballpark incorporates a variety of sustainable design elements and environmentally friendly fixtures. Both the Florida Marlins and the Minnesota Twins, for instance, used Nationals Park as a guide in the construction of their new parks. The 6,300 square-foot Green Roof was installed over the left field concessions stands and is composed of live vegetation that requires very little maintenance or watering. The roof absorbs sunlight and thereby minimizes roof heat gain in that area of the ballpark.

Rogers Centre sits right next to CN Tower, the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, a signature of Toronto's skyline and a Canadian icon. The stadium, originally called SkyDome, is best known for the retractable roof, an innovation that was ahead of its time when the venue opened in 1989. It takes just 20 minutes to close. Rogers Centre can be transformed from one mode (baseball) to another mode (football or concerts) within hours. The 100 level seating areas are situated on railway tracks that allow the seats to move for ease of conversion.

A high-definition video board was added to the roof of the area of the right-field bleachers — known as Home Run Porch — prior to the 2011 season. At 5,040 square feet, it is almost six times as big as the old board. The two-tiered seating area is reminiscent of traditional older ballparks with its steel columns and roof. Overhead fans provide relief from the Texas heat. Another unique feature is a small section of seats located in the right field corner, where the fans actually view the playing field through an opening in the outfield fence.

History lessons abound, starting with the statues of Robin Yount and Henry Aaron outside the entrance and continuing with the Walk of Fame on the plaza area that commemorates some of the greatest names in Milwaukee Brewers & Milwaukee Braves baseball history. Each inductee is honored with a granite-shaped home plate set in the ground.

There's a reason you'll see Dodger fans listening to radios while at the game. That reason is Vin Scully, simply the finest baseball broadcaster working today and among the all-tme greats. He's entering his 61st season with the Dodgers. Ballpark organists Nancy Bea Hefley joined the Dodgers as the team’s stadium organist in 1988. Like her predecessor, Helen Dell, Hefley played the piano and the accordion as a child. Hefley later played music in Las Vegas casinos and at horse shows. Over the years, she has amassed a repertoire of more than 2,000 songs.

Chavez Ravine, where the venue is located, is a prime spot for star sightings — both the celestial kind and the Hollywood type. Wrigley Field was built in 1914, making it the second-oldest MLB ballpark, after Fenway Park. The signature feature of Wrigley is the ivy-covered brick wall. The bleachers and scoreboard were built in 1937 and the vines were planted that year by GM Bill Vecck, to add charm to the stadium and cushion the brick wall. The clock atop the scoreboard was not part of the original scoreboard, it was added in 1941. With the exception of a few modern touches, such as the electronic message board, the original scoreboard remains just as it was in 1937. The score-by-innings and the pitchers' numbers are still changed by hand. Flags fly atop the scoreboard showing the standings of each National League division.

Fenway Park has one of the major leagues' last hand-operated scoreboards, which comprises the lower half of the Green Monster. It was added in 1934. Green and red lights signal balls, strikes and outs. Each scoreboard number measures 16-by-16 inches and weighs three pounds. Each of the numbers used for errors, innings and pitcher's numbers measures 12-by-16 inches and weighs two pounds. Behind the manual scoreboard is a room where the walls are covered with signatures of players who have played at Fenway. The initials TAY and JRY — for late owners Tom Yawkey and Jean Yawkey — appear in Morse code in two vertical stripes on the scoreboard.

Fenway's left field wall — the Green Monster — measures 37 feet and is famous for preventing home runs on line drives that would clear the walls of other ballparks. A side effect of this is an increase in doubles. Before the 2003 season, a seating section was added atop the wall to accommodate 274 fans. A ladder, once used by grounds crew to retrieve home run balls, remains attached to the wall. The Red Sox mascot, Wally, is named for the Green Monster.

The Arizona Diamondbacks' Legends Race presented by Henkel promotion takes place following the fifth inning of every home game. The Legends— 10-foot tall men in uniform with large foam heads — represent players who have made a significant contribution to the organization on the field: Mark Grace (left), Matt Williams (in red), Randy Johnson (right) and Luis Gonzalez. The Legends run a race that starts near the right field foul pole and continues on the warning track until the finish line at the on-deck circle near the D-backs dugout. Mark Grace has never won. Evidently, he's often distracted.
