News: Dyson and the Royals agreed to a one-year, $1.225 million contract to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
Impact: Dyson can earn another $25,000 for making 350 plate appearances, which he has yet to do through the first five seasons of his career. He projects to open the season as Kansas City's fourth outfielder, but with Alex Gordon recovering from Dec. 30 wrist surgery, Dyson could perhaps see some extra work at the beginning of the year. However, Gordon is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

Impact: Dyson, who is expected to be the Royals' fourth outfielder, can also make $25,000 for reaching 350 plate appearances and $50,000 if he's chosen for the All-Star game. The former 50th-round amateur draft pick hit .269 with one homer and 24 RBIs in 290 plate appearances last season. But his real value came on the base paths, where he had a career-high 36 steals.
